I illustrated this project during 2020. Cecilia Caimi, the author, contacted me on her own. This was a very enjoyable project to do, because the main characters change their shapes during the book. The cat turns to a bird and a fish, and the witch turns to a mermaid and a fairy. I presented some character sketches having this changing ability in mind.
When someone calls me for an illustration, I always ask them what they liked about my work. In this case, she showed me a project I made with acrylic paints over a black textured surface. As we were in the middle of the pandemic quarantine, I had no materials at home, so I decided to create a similar effect painting in photoshop. She was very happy with the final result.

To create the characters in an original way, I usually start with a blotch or shape to see what emerges. Then, I present several options for the main characters so the client can choose.
